Chit Chat #41 Jägermeister

by 8.8.20

This little fella is our neighbours cat. He has adopted the whole neighbourhood and has become a part time family member. His name is Loki and he looks a lot like a Norwegian forest cat, but mixed with some other breed as well.

Since he is allowed to go outside, he likes to hunt. A lot.... Birds, rats, mice you name it.
We have seen many deceased animal inside and out. I know a lot about the anatomy of many animal that he has delivered to our doorstep. A couple days ago there was a gut wrenching stench coming from our balcony. It was a decapitated rat covered in flies........

Today was one of those days where we received a present from our furry friend and the removing of the dead animal was not that easy....

A pigeon was reported missing earlier today and was carried in our living room by Loki, the Jägermeister. That is one of many names that I gave him. I tried to scare him outside, but he wanted to devour the pigeon inside our house. With the help of some paper I managed to bring the bird outside and hid him in the bushes, so I thought....

A couple minutes later, Loki was sleeping on our balcony. I didn't suspect anything. After hearing some suspicious sounds from underneath our balcony couch, I decided to have a look.
There was the bloody (literally and figuratively) pigeon again. This time without a head. The first time I removed the dead pigeon, he only had a bite mark on his chest.

Again I went outside and hid the pigeon. Like the first attempt, Loki followed me and knew where I hid it.

Oliver prepared our dinner and as for dessert, Loki laid the remainders of the pigeon right on the doormat.
I could see what the pigeon had for his last meal. While trying not to puke, Oliver and I collected the remains of the bird and put it in a bag and in the trash....

I wonder if Loki thought that I was playing hide and seek with him, or that maybe like you do with dogs; throw the ball and catch it to return it to your buddy....

Over the last couple of years I have had my fair share of collecting living and dismembered animals that were caught by our cats.... A lot of midnight adventures trying to save a mouse, that then after I saved it jumped off the staircase to its death. Called my neighbours in the middle of the night to help me get rid of a bloody toad, which I thought was dead, but then was still alive bleeding all over our carpet.....

I love Loki, but this part is kind of messy of having a part time furry friend. I know he likes to show his affection and bring us little dead things, but at the same time I feel sorry for those animals.
He does, however eat them and kills them quickly without playing with them.

Do any of you have cats that like to hunt and bring you dead, dismembered animals?
